Expertise - SUSTAINABILITYIT IS NOT ENOUGHT TO DO YOUR BEST; YOU MUST KNOW WHAT TO DO, AND THEN DO YOUR BEST. _W. EDWARDS DEMING
Buildings account for approximately 40% of world energy consumption. Approximately 75% of the world’s energy is consumed in urban areas. World energy consumption is projected to increase nearly 60% by 2030. Architects and engineers will play a critical role in conserving energy and natural resources and improving our environment in the future, and KMA Architecture & Engineering is committed to making sustainability a fundamental part of our design process and to finding innovative ways to help our clients enjoy the benefits of incorporating sustainable design strategies into their projects.
Sustainable design involves applying fundamental principles of good architectural design to every project. Carefully applied design principles such as proper siting and orientation of a building, careful massing and design of windows and shading features, and maximizing opportunities for daylighting and natural heating, cooling and ventilation often reduce building energy consumption by 60-80%. A carefully designed sustainable building does not need to cost more than a conventional design and can return significant savings in operational costs over the life of the building. (cont.)
