KMA Architecture & Engineering (KMA), announced that construction is underway for the Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) facility at Fort Huachuca in Sierra Vista, Ariz. KMA was retained by general contractor Jaynes Corporation to design the 30,000 square foot facility to achieve LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The project is expected to be completed in 2012.
Operated by the U.S. Army, the $8.6 million single-story UAS facility is a design-build project that will house administrative, common and utility support areas. The building’s service bays will require special design features including high ceilings, large insulated doors, an overhead bridge crane and translucent clerestory windows.
