KMA Designs New Aircraft Maintenance Unit, Green Flag Facility and Recreational Track & Field for Nellis Air Force Base

KMA Architecture & Engineering (KMA) announced that designs are underway for the F-16 Aggressor Hangar Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU), Green Flag Facility and track and field at Nellis Air Force Base in Clark County, Nevada. Retained by Jaynes Corporation, KMA will provide design and architectural engineering services for the project to comply with LEED Silver requirements when completed in fall 2011.

“KMA worked closely with the Air Force and its consultants to develop the most efficient and cost-effective design for all three of the projects,” said Don Blair. “We also incorporated the latest in sustainable technologies and practices to stay in line with the military’s mandate to achieve LEED certification.”

The $14 million project consists of a 39,797 square foot aircraft maintenance facility, a 19,126 square foot Green Flag operations building and a 9,500 square foot outdoor athletic complex.

The project incorporates environmentally-conscious features including exterior sun shades, large clerestory windows to provide natural daylighting, low-E glazing, water efficient plumbing fixtures, walk-off grates at entries, low-voc paints/sealants, and recycled-content materials.
