KMA Architecture & Engineering has begun designs for a 42,000-square-foot hangar/aircraft maintenance unit (AMU) and a 16,000-square-foot Green Flag facility at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas.
Retained by MWH Global, KMA is designing both buildings to achieve a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification.
Through an on-site design charrette, KMA worked closely with the Air Force and its consultants to develop the most efficient and cost-effective design for both structures.
The hangar/AMU will eventually house F-16 Aggressors and includes a high bay with a bridge crane for aircraft maintenance and two-story spaces for administration and supply storage.
The Green Flag facility, which provides support for pilots, includes both secure and unsecure administrative spaces and a 150-seat auditorium.
