APERTURE

Aperture2

Aperture, designed for CityMark Development of San Diego, is an 11 story residential tower with street level retail/commercial space located on a tight urban infill site (quarter block) on the boundary between the Little Italy and Central Core districts of downtown San Diego. The building is conceived as a “boutique” style residential building which distinguishes itself through progressive and sophisticated design. It is a sophisticated urban residential building rather than an industrial “loft” style building and is intended to attract residents who want to live in a sophisticated urban building in an area currently undergoing renewal as an exciting urban residential district. The building is a mixed-use building consisting of 84 residential units and 5,273 sf of street level retail/commercial space, with parking for 131 cars on 4 levels underground.

The building is capped with a double height penthouse volume consisting primarily of glass under a clean overhanging roof plane, intended to differentiate the penthouse levels from the body of the building. All penthouse units are two stories with terraces on level 10 and the articulated penthouse volumes create private outdoor space without resorting to fences or walls between units. Several penthouses have double height interior spaces which emphasize volume and light. It is envisioned that the penthouse volume will glow with internal light and be visible from around the city at night. BACK »
