Construction of $10 million training center under way at Camp Pendleton
A design-build team comprising professionals from KMA Architecture & Engineering and Straub Construction Inc. has begun work on a Marine Corps Infantry Training Center at Camp Pendleton.
When completed in fall, the $10 million project will be one of the first on the Marine Corps base to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification under the rating system for sustainable buildings administered by the U.S. Green Building Council.
"Because LEED certified buildings are relatively new to Camp Pendleton, the addition of these sustainable buildings is an exciting project for KMA to take on," said Don Blair, president of KMA. "These sustainable features will help to conserve resources, minimize energy and water consumption, and improve occupant productivity, health and comfort."
Sustainable design features of the two-story building include photovoltaic solar panels that will reduce energy costs by more than 12 percent and water efficient plumbing fixtures and drought-tolerant landscaping, which will reduce irrigation needs by 50 percent.
