Additionally, the KMA design team included wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, installed large windows to allow natural light into the office and incorporated low flow and sensor activated water features. The surrounding parking area also has designated preferred parking spaces for low emitting and fuel efficient vehicles. KMA specified only using paints, coatings, adhesives and sealants with no or very low VOC content, a common ingredient that is dangerous to the earth’s atmosphere.
The 109,102 square-foot Class A office building is the seventh and final building designed by KMA in Liberty Station’s 361-acre mixed-use development. The overall design scheme of the project is compatible with the architectural features of the existing historic buildings at Liberty Station with respect to massing, scale and design, allowing it to easily blend in with its surroundings. The project is the only three-story building in the complex and features arched windows, tile accents, and clay-tiled roofs.
The KMA project team included Jim Belmont, Stephanie Bien, Don Blair, Jay Guerrero and Joyce Peabody. Mechanical, HVAC and electrical engineering services were also provided by KMA. Burkett & Wong was the structural engineer, Richard Lang was the civil engineer and Teshima Design was the landscape architect. BYCOR was the general contractor and Facility Solutions provided interior services.
