For advanced government projects, KMA often uses Revit software to accomplish the exact design needs. The software allows for Building Information Modeling (BIM), which goes beyond line drawings to model three-dimensional floor plans and wall components for the most efficient approach to make immediate adjustment and changes to the design plan.

“In several very successful meetings with Navy personnel and building users, we used building information modeling software to make their changes in real time,” said Rich Guerena, associate and project architect at KMA. “The users immediately saw how their comments and suggestions affected the building layout and programmatic functionality. This was a very positive and productive experience for all of us, and we continued that kind of cooperative work throughout the building design process with all of the design consultants.”

KMA’s background of U.S. government design and construction projects includes work for Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Army Corp of Engineers, General Services Administration, Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense, as well as for cities and counties nationwide.

The KMA team is led by Don Blair, Jen Gagne, Rich Guerena and Ilia Voronchihin. Structural and civil engineering services are provided by Burkett & Wong, the electrical engineer is ILA Zammit, mechanical and plumbing engineers are DSEngineering, and the landscape architect is Wimmer Yamada & Caughey.
