Turner nomination for Orchids & Onions

08/16/2014
In early 2014 Turner's San Diego office moved to a 25,000 s.f. office/warehouse space designed for them by KMA Architecture and ID Studios.

Starting with a bland, single-story, concrete tilt-up and glass industrial office building built in 1984 it was transformed into a modern and open office filled with history and natural light.

Using wood clad walls, polished concrete floors, glass enclosed conferencing areas, flashes of metal in furniture and HVAC runs and keeping the ceiling open to the structure, ID Studios reimagined traditional construction materials into a modern interior that still manages to pay homage to the evolution of Turner Construction. Historical pictures scattered throughout the office are reminders to the employees and visitors of Turner's past and how it ties into their current space.

Turner wanted to make their entry a stand out feature, but it was a shared front with another business and each needed to be significant. KMA designed a great solution for the entry using simple geometric forms in wood cladding to set the tone for the honest and straightforward space within. The exterior wood clad feature wall continues into the entry lobby and becomes an eye-catching angled backdrop at the reception area. A custom built desk stands out in front of a faux finished concrete wall.

The end result is nothing short of awesome.
