My love of art, buildings, and math led me to architecture as a career path. I found out later, as many architects, that the idea of math being used excessively is an exaggerated notion. As a native of Buffalo, New York I earned my Bachelors and Masters of Architecture at the State University of New York at Buffalo (or UB). UB’s architecture campus was centered downtown amid the historic buildings designed by many legends such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and H.H. Richardson, and was only a short distance from Olmstead’s Delaware Park. While in Buffalo, I made sure to tour as many historic structures as possible, with one of my favorite being the Darwin Martin House. I spent a large portion of my weekends as a volunteer there.

Following graduation I worked at an architecture/engineering office that renovated many public schools and universities for many years before taking a chance on the west coast. As someone who runs cold, I’ve been wishing for constant temperatures in the 70s, so I set my sites for San Diego, California. I drove cross country with my dog Valentino and made San Diego my new home. So far the weather is even better than expected which encourages me to explore everything that this city has to offer.

I discovered KMA’s job posting while searching a list of the best architects to work for here in San Diego. I checked out their website, and the rest is history. KMA has a very strong team that encourages new ideas and is very supportive and welcoming. The office is also located in one of the best locations here in San Diego.

Currently I am focusing on completing the remainder of my architectural licensing exams, expecting to wrap everything up prior to the end of ARE 4.0. When not studying, I spend my time exploring the city, hiking, checking out the music scene, and uncovering fun backdrops for Valentino’s Instagram photos (@Valentinocappuccino).
